Anthony Sculimbrene graduated from Xavier University in 1999, got an MA in Philosophy from Boston College in 2001 and a JD from Suffolk Law School in 2004. He worked for the New Hampshire Public Defender, handling every kind of criminal case from juvenile petitions to homicides. In the 12 years that worked there he also served on the Litigation Support team, doing research on topics related to Search and Seizure, Expert Witnesses, the Law of Plea Negotiations, and various aspects of the state’s Sexually Violent Predator law.
He conducted state-wide trainings on false confessions, drugs and drug analysis, searches of cellphones and computers, forensic computer analysis in child pornography cases, first amendment challenges to child pornography cases, using and cross-examining expert witnesses and tactics for the new jury voir dire procedures for criminal cases. He conducted the Public Defender new lawyer training on search and seizure issues for more than a decade. He was one of two counsel on the state’s first Sexually Violent Predator trial and headed the Public Defender’s unit for post-conviction commitment of sexually violent predators. While he head the post-conviction commitment unit, there were no new commitments statewide.
Sculimbrene has extensive trial experience, handling more than 20 jury trials, well over 100 bench trials, more than 100 juvenile petitions, and multiple successful habeas petitions. He also taken part in mediation in sexually violent predator cases and successfully used the criminal settlement conference process for his clients both in superior and district court.
Sculimbrene has two sons, Isaac and Ethan, with his wife Bianca and is an avoid outdoorsman. He writes about outdoor gear for various sites, including his own blog.
