New foreclosure legislation protects homeowners from scams
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.

The number of foreclosures in New Hampshire is expected to peak over the coming year and state officials and lawmakers are continuing to do what they can to soften the blow.

Your Turn, NH: Who cares if the court system cannot afford to be open?
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
(Orignally Published August 26, 2003)
As the Legislature and the governor have eviscerated the financial support for the state court system, I have sat by and said little, never believing that their budget cuts would actually cause the system of justice in New Hampshire to be placed in jeopardy. More...

Toy Safety for Children
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
(Originally Published December 2000)
At this special time of year, we are inundated with advertisements which draw us into the shopping malls to buy our children the hottest toys on the market. I was in a store the other day and actually witnessed parents carting their young son around a toy store with him checking everything off of his list as they went.

Pharmacy Malpractice: Consumers Beware
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
I have been practicing law for almost 28 years now, and in that time, I had never handled a case that involved the negligent actions of a pharmacy. I have just completed two separate trials which involved two national chain pharmacies that resulted in verdicts for my clients.

Safety for Seniors in Nursing Homes
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
The older we get, it seems that the elderly become more and more a focus in our lives. Leaving a parent off at a nursing home conjures up some of the same thoughts which they must have had when they dropped their children off at the bus stop for camp in the summer, sent them off to school, or even went out for the night and left the kids with a new baby sitter.

Motorcyclists: Watch Where You Are Going
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
(Originally Published August 2000)
When I used to meet the nicest people on my Honda 50 motor scooter in high school, and then when I flew by the nicest people on my 650 cc Triumph Tiger in the late 60's, I was one who always wore my helmet and mask. Although my parents thought I was crazy for riding a two wheel motorized vehicle, it was always a blast. My attitude changed a little when I didnt notice that the sand on the ground in front of the tollbooth covered up an oil slick, so over I went.

Getting a Kick Out of Lawyers
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Originally published in July 1996

Leaving a Rotary meeting several weeks ago, I was approached by a member who asked me rather sheepishly whether I had been enrolled in a course at law school that prepared me for the constant bashing of lawyers in public.

Punitive Damages

We are all too familiar with the plight of O.J. Simpson as a result of his alleged day of terror, and of the tragic death of his wife and her friend.

Advice to Women Entering the Practice of Law
by Anna Barbara Hantz, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Originally published in July 1998
The advice that I would like most to pass on to women entering the practice is to recognize that you cannot know it all.

Consortium - A Change for the Better
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Originally published in July 1998

Consortium - what an odd word New Hampshire law attributes to the cause of action available to a spouse for the loss of comfort, society, and companionship in personal injury cases and in wrongful death cases.

Jury Duty in New Hampshire
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Originally published in April 2000

Many years ago, I used to receive calls from clients, friends, and acquaintances asking how on earth they could get out of, or postpone serving on jury duty.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Insurance Coverage
by David M. Gottesman, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Originally published in May 2000

I recently was consulted by a client who was involved in a very serious car accident who wanted to know how much money was available in insurance for the claim. His medical bills were $25,000.00 and he lost two months of work costing him $10,000.00. He suffered a lot of pain and had to go to physical therapy for a long period of time. The only problem was that the other driver that hit him only had minimal insurance limits; $25,000.00 per person and $50,000.00 for all people who were hurt in the accident, regardless of the extent of their injuries.

Non-Competition Agreements
by Paul DeCarolis, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Most employers spend years creating good relationships with their customers and educating their employees. Upon leaving the company the employee can, and often does, compete with the employer. They may also solicit other key employees of the company and its customers. This can be devastating to an employer, particularly those in a niche market.

Toxic Mold
by Paul DeCarolis, Esq., Gottesman & Hollis, P.A.
Mold infestation in homes and buildings is becoming a common problem. Mold can develop in areas that tend to be damp such as poorly drained basement areas with water leaks or infiltration, or poorly ventilated attic spaces. A number of mold spores such as stachybotrys can cause serious health problems including headache, nausea, dizziness, respiratory problems, extreme asthma, coughing, eye, nose and throat irritations.
